What is Hourly Care?

Hourly care is also called ‘domiciliary care’ or ‘visiting care’

There is a range of terms to describe hourly care services such as domiciliary care and visiting care, but all refer to a carer visiting your home at times during the day to provide care and support.

Hourly care generally involves a carer attending to a client’s home at specific times during the day for periods to help with tasks that may have become too difficult to do alone. This could be anything from assisting with showering, to light household tasks or providing meals, as well as support with personal care.

This may also allow a family carer looking after a loved one to have a break.

Some clients may require a visit more than once a day, sometimes several visits a day, a few days, or every day each week.  Hourly care can be flexible enabling you to book as many hours as you require to make sure you have the support you need.

Hourly care may be useful if a client is engaging in a live-in care service and extra hourly support is needed to cover the live-in carers’ daily breaks for example. Hourly care service can also be used to support those who have more complex needs, where two carers may be required at certain times of the day to provide the right care, whether this is during the day or in the evening.

If a client has complex care needs over a 24-hour period, daily care or live-in care arrangements may be more suitable.
